This weeks video will focus on a basic introduction to the OS and some back ground of it. Week by week we will show you how to use some of the tools that come packaged with Kali Linux.

    So lets begin:

Kali Linux is Debian based Linux distribution designed for digital forensics and pen testing. It was developed by the same team that developed BackTrack,

Kali Linux is pre-installed with over 600 penetration-testing programs, including Armitage (a graphical cyber attack management tool), nmap (a port scanner), Wireshark (a packet analyzer), John the Ripper (a password cracker), Aircrack-ng (a software suite for penetration-testing wireless LANs) which we will go over individually at another time. One thing to note is that most of the programs open through the terminal window meaning there is no GUI and can be difficult to work with.

AS you can tell Kali Linux is not an OS that is designed for everyday productivity use like Ubuntu or Linux Mint and is not a Linux distro that is recommend for beginners.

Kali Linux is specifically tailored to the needs of penetration testing professionals, and therefore all documentation on there site assumes prior knowledge of the Linux operating system in general.
